Besigye Condemns Kasese Massacre
By Serestino Tusingwire
Forum for Democratic Change and opposition icon Rtd Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has condemned the current mass killings in Kasese district which he thinks is turning into genocide.
Through his twitter handle, Besigye posted wondering how something small has turned out to be a massacre and accused the police for denying media access to information.
“Genocide in Kasese? Can’t find what else to call this type of massacre! God save our country from this senseless violence.” Besigye posted.
The self proclaimed people’s president believes the number of people who are currently dead exceeds the number that is being reported in different media, and blames that to police.
“Kasese massacres covered in media blackout! Only UPDF/ Police source of info!! Journalists arrested,” he posted.
It’s worth noting that since Saturday, there have been heavy gunfire in the Rwenzururu kingdom between UPDF/Police and kingdom royal guards that has so far claimed lives of over 70 people and many others arrested.
This unrest came when Police and UPDF soldiers decided to run an operation to disarm the Kingdom royal guards which they reacted by engaging the former into a fierce fight.
Meanwhile, the Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere is under arrest after police suspected him to be the commander behind these royal guards.
However, the police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kawesi called upon Ugandans to remain calm as police tries to settle the situation.
