Chinese Firm Ordered To Return Shs1.8bn  


Chinese firm, Chongqing International Construction Company has been ordered to pay Shs1.84bn to UNRA by close of businesses Tuesday next week.

The directive from Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities was arrived at after consultant Roberts Gyesi, said that the information availed in which NEMA was advising UNRA to pay Shs1.84bn to contractor was an error.

In the defence view, The Consultant Roberts Gyesi, who approved the payment said he was not aware of the environmental laws but only informed by the contract.

Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities chairperson Abdu Katuntu wondered that; “If these are the sort of consultants UNRA is hiring, then the country has a big problem.”

Roberts Gyesi later apologized to the committee for the wrong advice he gave to UNRA.

This website understands that Yesterday, UNRA officials were grilled on the irregular payment they made to Chongqing International Construction Company after the company complained that the former rendered its equipment idle.
