Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere arrested

The Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere has been arrested and immediately lifted to Kampala in a police helicopter.

This follows heavy fights between Rwenzururu Kingdom royal guards and the joint security operation aimed at disarming the guards.

The royal guards did not heed to security directive of handing in all illegal firearms, which the police to engage them into a fight in pursuit of the directive.

However, the Omusinga insisted on keeping his guards while army wants them to surrender, which prompted the security operatives to forcefully arrest him.

He is believed to have been the commander behind the Kingdom royal guards.

Andrew Felix Kawesi, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest.

“We believe these attacks have a political motive and have so far arrested 15 key ring leaders including the Kingdom Chief.” Kawesi said before adding that; “14 police officers, 41 Rwenzori attackers and 2 UPDF soldiers are dead while others are left with injuries.”
