Ronaldo scores hat-trick as Real beat Atletico 3-0
Spanish giants Real Madrid and their Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his 39th career hat-trick, to power his side to a 3-nil victory over their old rivals Atletico in the first Madrid derby of the season at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Ronaldo gave the visitors the lead with a deflected free-kick some 23 minutes into the match on Saturday.
Ronaldo’s 2nd goal came with about 20 minutes remaining. Stefan Savic upended the Portuguese inside the area, and the 3-time world’s best player of the year made no mistake and converted the resulting penalty kick.
Just minutes later, Ronaldo completed his hat-trick when he tapped-in a cross from Gareth Bale to seal Zinedine Zidane’s men a 3-0 victory, which extended their lead over Barcelona to 4 points at the top of the table.
Diego Simeone’s men are now sitting in 5th, 9 points adrift of Real. The match marked the last-ever La Liga meeting between the 2 teams at the Vicente Calderon, as Atletico will play at the newly-renovated La Peineta Stadium from next season.
