Visitation Committee on Makerere commence work today
By Serestino Tusingwire
The committee of nine members chaired by Dr. Abel Rwendeire is expected to meet today afternoon to discuss on how they will carry out the work of probing the troubled Makerere University as directed by President Museveni a few days ago.
The meeting is to take place at the National Planning Authority headquarters.
Dr. Rwendeire said; “Today’s meeting is all about President’s meeting on Thursday and after that, we shall formulate a work plan as per the president’s directive.”
“And details of this meeting will be revealed on Tuesday,” he added.
Makerere University was closed earlier this month on the directives of President Museveni, following academic staff strike over incentive arrears amounting to Shs28bn.
The probe committee is expected to finish its work within three months, making it unclear on when the university will be reopened.
Government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, has therefore dismissed all baseless talk circulating on social media that Makerere would be reopened on December 5.
