Besigye sues Civil Aviation Authority
By Serestino Tusingwire
Former FDC presidential candidate Rtd Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has dragged the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to the High Court over his arrest at Entebbe International Airport.
Besigye accuses CAA for allegedly conniving with security operatives to pull him off the aircraft even without giving him a chance to pick his luggage.
The incident happened on 3rd October 2016 when Besigye was returning from a long visit in UK and USA.
It is reported that men in CAA uniform arrested him upon landing at the airport and whisked him away through many unidentifiable routes to his home in Kasangati.
His luggage was brought to him the following day.
Therefore, through his lawyer Ladislus Rwakafuuzi, Besigye has taken a legal action challenging CCA of diverting his planned movements and driving him against his will through remote routes from the Airport to his home.
Besigye says he was also denied the right to meet and move from the Airport in company of his waiting family, friends, associates and supporters hence violating his freedom of Association.
Meanwhile, court has given CAA only 15 days within which to file a response before Justice Patricia Basaza can fix it for hearing.
