Court Summons Central Youth MP, Babirye Over Shs80m Debt
By Serestino Tusingwire
Commercial Court in Kampala has issued summons to the central region youth MP, Sarah Babirye Kityo to respond to a case in which she is accused of failing to pay a debt amounting to UGX80 millions.
This was after city businessman Mutyaba David filed a case in the same court accusing her of failing to pay back the money she got from him in 2015.
According the summons signed by Court’s registrar Thaddeus Opiseni, the MP is given only 10 days within which she has to defend herself before Justice David Wangutsi sets the hearing case.
If she fails, Mutyaba may proceed with the case and Court may pass verdict in her absence.
The plaintiff [Mutyaba] claims that in September 2015 entered into a memorandum of understanding with Babirye in which he advanced a loan amounting to Shs250m to facilitate her campaigns.
She promised to refund the money in question as soon as possible but has failed to fulfill the promise though she managed to pay back some.
Evidence before Court shows that Babirye paid 170 million shillings leaving a balance of 80 million shilling which she has failed to pay despite several demands and remainders.
Mutyaba therefore wants Court to compel the MP to pay back his money and also pay costs of the suit.
