Court to Rule on Mwesigye’s Assault Case in March

Buganda Road court has set the 10th March, 2017 to deliver its final judgment in an assault case against the former Old Kampala DPC Joram Mwesigye.

Mwesigye is accused of assaulting WBS TV journalist Andrew Lwanga on 12th January, 2015 at Florina bar and guest house along Namirembe road.

The victim was covering a demonstration by the unemployed youths who were matching to meet IGP Kale Kayihura.

Mwesigye was commanding the police operations against move and ended up beating up whoever he came across.

Mwesigye appeared before Buganda road court on Monday and closed his defence with only one witness as against prosecutions 6 witnseses and thus presiding Grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu set the judgement date.

The former officer faces 2 counts including assault and maliciously damaging 2 video cameras belonging to Lwanga and a Newvision journalist Joseph Ssetimba.
