Police’s Criminal Investigations Department has grilled the Kasese Municipality MP, Robert Centenary over alleged defamatory statements he made against the former Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga.
Centenary was yesterday arrested and taken to Kibuli police station where he faced tough questions about the said allegations.
He recorded a statement before CID detectives headed by the commissioner of crimes at kibuli CID Venus Tumuhimbise and was released late in the evening.
It’s alleged that Centenary in April last year, he accused Crispus Kiyonga of fueling tension between security forces and the Rwenzururu Kingdom in Kasese District.
Centenary has however accused Kiyonga for trying to open up fights against the leaders from the same area.
“The fact that Kiyonga lost an election should not make him start opening up useless fights on current leaders in the district.” Centenary said.
Kiyonga unexpectedly lost his Bukonzo West parliamentary seat to FDC’s Jackson Mbaju Kathika in the February, 2016 general elections.
He has recently been appointed as Uganda’s ambassador to China’s Beijing.
