Michael Joseph has been appointed interim chief Executive officer of Safaricom following Bob Collymore ‘death. Joseph is known as the former CEO who served the same company from July 2000 when the company was re-launched as a joint venture between Vodafone UK and Telkom Kenya until November 2010. Notably, he is now currently working as Chairman of Kenya Airways. Collymore, who passed on Monday morning after battling cancer, took over from Joseph as Safaricom CEO in November 2010. During the special board meeting of the directors, the board appointed Michael Joseph as the interim CEO with immediate effect. The telco has announced that Joseph will hold the position until the Safaricom Board makes communication on a permanent appointment. Remarkably, the board is assured that Joseph will provide the necessary guidance and leadership to the company and its employees. In addition, Michael Joseph is also Vodafone’s Strategic Advisor appointed to the Boards of Vodacom Group South Africa, Vodacom Tanzania, Vodacom Mozambique and Safaricom Limited in Kenya.
