Kabale – The Electoral Commission on Monday, September 21, kicked off the nomination of candidates for local government councils elections 2021.
The exercise, which will run until October 1, 2020, is taking place at district and county headquarters around the country, during weekdays and starting at 9am and ending at 5pm.
In Kabale district, several aspirants have showed up at the kabale district Lukiiko hall for the nomination exercise
Naduuli the kabale district registrar for Kampala, Frederick Muwaya, said that they have registered a massive turnout of candidates for nominations on day one – and that they are working to ensure all of them are nominated within the set time.
He said that Kamuganguzi sub county headquarters is conducting nominations for Ndorwa East and West sub county and town coucil chaipersons and councilors
Naduuli says that do far as 60 have been nominated as the exercise is still going smoothly as they not registered any forgery in the exercise and that rheir is no overcrowding because those they nominate have to first book as each candidate has his tine he is supposed to be nominated as this was done as one way of adhering to ministry of health standard operating procedures in the fight agansit covid 19.
So far those that have been nominated are Nelson Nsahangabasheija of NRM for LCV, Sam Tindimwebwa of UPC for Mayor kabale Municplaity,Isaac Anyijukire Rurihooha of NRM LCIII chairperson southern division ,Sam Arinaitwe LCIII central division,Namara Natasha female district youth councilir,Maclean Kamusiime LCIII southern division ,Bridget Asinga who is the district vice chairperson was nominated for kyanamira sub county woman district councilor among others.
When our reporter visited the nomination centre at the kabale district Lukiiko hall there is adhere to some standard operating procedures like no convoys as well as many supporters accompanying candidates it’s just a few who have been coming with two people while others they didn’t have but Even though there was water most people were not washing their hands before entering as well there is no strict adherence to wearing of face masks by candidates as well as their Supporters.
