Kampala 5th April, 2021; Senegalese-American musician Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, popularly known as Akon an Investor and Philanthropist has announced that he’s planning on building another city in Uganda.
Speaking to the media today 5th April 2021, afternoon at a press conference held at the Office of the President in Kampala, Akon recognized Africa’s potential to provide tailored solutions to African problems and called for unity and working together across African countries to achieve synergistic development.
Flanked by the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, Trade and Investment Officer in the Office of the President Isaac Kigozi who doubles as the local manager of the entire Akon City project, the international pop star explained how the project will help Ugandans.
“The city will be divided into districts that’s is the Entertainment district which will offer recording studios to Ugandans music, film and movie starts to thrive, the medical district offering specialized medication to the people, education district offering the best tertiary and university education as well as the business district offering a number of business opportunities and financial services’’, he said.
The plan has the backing of the Ugandan government, who announced that they’ve allotted one square mile of land for Akon City part two.
Akon expressed his amazement at the beauty of Uganda and her immense tourist and investment potential which he promised to expose internationally to the outside world.
Asked whether Ugandans will be able to afford to live in Akon City, which is set to feature futuristic shopping malls, stadiums and recreational facilities like its sister city, Akon said: “I know if I put it there, they’re going to find a way to afford it because it’s going to motivate them.”
Earlier today, Akon met with senior Government Officials including Ministers; Hon. Okello Oryem, State Minister of Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon Isaac Musumba, State Minister for Urban Development, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, State Minister for Housing, Mr. Abbey Walusimbi, Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, and Ms Lilly Ajarova, CEO Uganda Tourism Board. The meeting discussed potential areas of investment in detail. The Government promised cooperation and support for Akon’s ready investment idea.
Last week, Akon and his delegation called on H.E the President in Rwakitura and discussed different investment opportunities in various sectors of Energy, Tourism, and Infrastructure development. President Museveni pledged one square meter of land to kick start Akon’s investment projects.
