Renowned Alam Group’s Businessman Ali Alam Named UMA Board Member

Alam Group of Companies’ Ali Alam has been selected to the Uganda Manufacturers Association board (UMA) which will serve from 2021 to 2023.

The election was held on 2nd December 2021 during UMA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the UMA Multipurpose Hall, Lugogo Kampala.

Alam commended members for entrusting him saying that while the economy has been hit hard by inflation, however the UMA board will task the government to enact policies that can help businesses revive again.

Alam remarked that Uganda has had a challenging two years but with the ongoing COVID vaccinations, there is light at the end of the tunnel for businesses adding that their companies have endeavored to serve Uganda through the tough COVID times over since early 2020 and this trust in their service means a lot.

He revealed that Alam Group of Companies speedily adopted the measures that the Ministry of Health recommended to avoid or limit the spread of COVID in 2020. As a result, the group had been able to keep much of its workforce at work with few cases of interruption due to the pandemic. He promised to share this knowledge with the board and country when given an opportunity.

Construction works for a new sugar plant worth $40m (UGX. 148b) commenced in Kassanda District where both the estate and the factory are valued at $20m each thus bringing the total investment of factory plus land capital and development to $40m.
This will also bring job creation, social corporate responsibility like drinking water supply, construction of classrooms and training of young people, as well as training activities directly related to the planting and treatment of sugarcane among others.
