Gen. Taban Led West Nile Veterans Association Resolutions Unveiled

An extraordinary West Nile Veterans Association meeting chaired by Lt.Gen.Taban Amin this week has agreed on a five points program that will stir development and unity among the Veterans in the region.

To empower its members, the association resolved to form Parish Development Groups so as to improve household income, alleviate poverty amongst veteran families


‘’We should embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM) program that was recently launched by President Yoweri Museveni. Government will be bringing money to the parish SACCOs where you can borrow this money and invest it in income generating activities’’, Taban told members .

The PDM identifies seven pillars that include: 1) production, storage, processing and marketing; 2) infrastructure and economic services; 3) Financial inclusion; 4) social services; 5) mindset changing; 6) parish based management information system; 7) governance and administration.

Other resolutions include according descent burial to veterans, PDM groups forming Primary Cooperative societies in each district and later form West Nile Veterans and Ex Combatants Cooperative Union and the cooperative promoting Production of Agricultural products for local economic development, Industrialization, value addition, commercialization and marketing of products and work closely with Operation Wealth Creation and UWEZO Investment Cooperative Society Ltd.

The fifth resolution of the association was that the Regional office of which Gen Taban is chairman shall play a supervision role and Coordinator Operation Wealth Creation for Arua City Col .Lori Dradria Osutre shall coordinate its investment programs in the West Nile region.

Government officials including President Museveni have in the past tirelessly encouraged Ugandans in their various capacities to set up SACCOs so that they can benefit from the operation wealth creation and other programmes established by the government.

Government funding can easily be channeled and accessed by the members through their established SACCOs aimed to facilitate the social-economic transformation of households.
