Mufti Mubajje Condemns Arrest Of Muslim Clerics

The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has asked security agencies to end the indiscriminate arrest of Muslim clerics across the country.

Mubaje demanded that all individuals connected to subversive activities should be investigated, and a thorough scrutiny of intelligence information conducted before their arrest.

The plea was made in reference to the recent arrest of 10 Muslim clerics’ suspected to be responsible for the killing of fellow Muslim leaders in different parts of the country. They include; Sheik Yunus Kamoga, the leader of Tabligh sect in Uganda, Murta Bukenya, Fahad Kayondo, Swamaddu Ssegi, Abdul Kikubira and Sula Semambo.

Mubaje was addressing members of the Muslim community during joint reconciliation prayers at Nusrat grounds in Mbarara on Friday. The Joint Juma prayers were aimed at uniting Muslim sects.

Mubaje said the ongoing arrests and closure of Madrasa schools causing rifts within the Muslim community.

Mufti Mubaje urged members of the Muslim community to shun all groups preaching messages of hate.

Sheik Ahmed Ssenyange, the Amir of Western region welcomed the unity and pledged to bury their differences in order to promote peace and harmony in the country.
