More eyebrows were raised on Monday Abeine missed the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed ministers including his wife as VP at State House Entebbe
Whispers are growing louder in political corridors after Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo’s husband, Peter Abeine, was once again a no-show at a major public event.
Ever since the couple publicly showcased their romance in 2022, Alupo and Abeine had become almost inseparable, frequently appearing together at official functions. The VP even at some point travelled with Abeine to the United States during a high-profile dinner hosted by former US President Joe Biden.
But keen Red Pepper snoops have noticed a curious change. Since last year, the couple’s public appearances together have dramatically reduced, fueling speculation among political gossip lovers.
The whispers intensified when Abeine was absent during Alupo’s swearing-in as Woman MP for Katakwi District at Parliament last month.
More eyebrows were raised on Monday when he again missed the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed ministers including his wife as VP at State House Entebbe.
Whether the low-profile arrangement is a deliberate decision by the couple or a sign of deeper issues remains anyone’s guess.
Both Alupo and Abeine were previously married. Alupo was formerly married to Major Innocent Tukashaba, with whom she had children before the marriage ended. Abeine was previously married to State House staffer Ronah Nahabwe, and the pair share twins.
For now, it’s all speculation.
As Vice President Alupo embarks on another “kisanja of no sleep”, at RedPepper we can only hope all is well behind the scenes.
