Rwanda president Paul Kagame has said his answer on whether he will seek a third term or not will be based on the results of the referendum regarding the removal of Presidential Term Limits from the Constitution.
Addressing officials of the governing Rwanda Patriotic Front on December 6th, Kagame said he has listened to everybody.
“I have listened to each of you and the answer you want from me will be based on the results of the referendum.” He added; “The future should depend on all of us, Kagame being here or not here.”
In message that has been interpreted to denote a jab at other countries which are pressurizing Kagame not to stand for a third term, he said Rwanda can be friend with other countries, they can disagree but there is a line when it comes to interests of the Rwandans.
“We can be good friends and we can agree to disagree but there is a line when it comes to the interests of Rwandans. The first thing we need is ownership; we must own the course of our lives. But ownership comes with serious responsibility,” he said.
He said Rwandans must strive for the right thing but also accept input of others.
“We must strive to do the right thing, to hold ourselves and each other accountable. But this does not mean you won’t entertain inputs from others.”
