Azawi’s ‘African Music’ Concert Brings Kampala to Its Knees, Revelers Fill Up Lugogo Grounds

As widely celebrated as Azawi music is, which has largely contributed to the ‘Ugandanization’ of Africa, exceptionalities in her melody and management was truthfully exhibited after she put on a powerful performance which left the crowd yearning for more.

Just like Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche a German philosopher said; ‘’Without music, life would be a mistake’’, Azawi’s Friday July 22nd 2022 concert at Lugogo Grounds

Azawi’s sound was distinct from others in the music industry, it only exalted her uniqueness and proved her irreplaceability.

Azawi kicked off the first part of her show amid a fireworks display at exactly 10 pm with her 2021 hit song My Year. This was followed by performances like Crazy Love, Ache For You, and Gimme off her Maiden album African Music. She also paid homage to her label Swangz Avenue’s co-founder Benon Mugumbya by performing a Benon and Vampos classic I Know with the duo.

The show also saw some very exceptional performances from APass, Zex Bilangilangi, Karole Kasita, Elijah Kitaka and Pia Pounds.

Azawi also paid tribute to fallen Mowzey Radio when she performed Nyumbani in honor of Radio.

Swangz Avenue songstress, Azawi, has set the bar so high after shutting down Lugogo Show grounds. The place was full to the brim as fans were flooding the place to support their diva.

Being her first concert, the singer did exceptionally well. Obviously, being under a recognized music label also added something to the success of this day.

There were so many highlights during the concert that left indelible marks on the hearts of her fans.

To start with, Azawi has a sensational voice, not just on record but live. Her energy while performing plus her voice were the highlight of the day.

Most of the time, artists down here in Uganda, don’t care about the arrangements of the vocals. However, Azawi set a standard for them and probably even the big artists will learn from her.

Azawi also paid tribute to fallen Mowzey Radio when she performed Nyumbani in honor of Radio. She exceptionally did well with the song that even her fans joined in the singing.

Her simple dress code probably also helped her connect with her fans.

She simply did shorts and shirts every time she stepped on the stage. Sometimes artists go extra with the dressing that their fans feel so far away from them but it wasn’t so with Azawi.

After this concert, most of her fans concluded that Azawi is a global artist and has just started on her journey.

Azawi is a multi-talented singer, songwriter and a recording artist. She was signed under Swangz Avenue in late 2019. Records show she was inspired into music many years ago. This was after her frequent visits at Ndere Cultural Centre where she used to go and watch festivals. Azawi later joined the Kika dance troupe in 2005 after which, she started singing in school with the help of a friend who mentored her as a songwriter.

She has managed to write songs for Ugandan artists. These include among others; Lydia Jazmine, Nina Rose, Eddy Kenzo and many more. This year she released her debut five-track EP titled LO FIT. Azawi was given an opportunity of being signed. She gladly grabbed it and got officially signed with Swangz Avenue. Swangz unveiled her in November 2019 and in January 2020, they released their first single Quinamino which rocked the Ugandan airwaves that year in 2020.
