According to a video clip of the prayers, Muntu broke down into tears as payers heated up.

Addressing the congregation, he said Kizza Besigye, the party president in the February 18th presidential elections is physically incarcerated but mentally free.

Muntu said the party is fighting for the freedom and rights of all Ugandans.

The prayers which officials say are aimed at liberating the country were held countrywide at all FDC offices.

At the party headquarters, the prayers were attended by Gen. Muntu, Party President, Amb. Birigwa, Party Chairman, Secretary Mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe, Jack Wamai Wamaga among other officials.

Pastor Daniel Ngabo of Rock Deliverance Church, Makerere who led the prayers said he is ready to go to prison to defend the truth.

“The truth is bitter, I saw people die in cold blood, I can’t sit on the truth. I am ready for prison, if that’s the sacrifice to make, death should not scare us all for speaking out,” he said.

He said the day (yesterday) will go down in history as a demonstration of prayer towards freedom, to free votes, campaign and free Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Besigye has been locked at his Kasangati home since the presidential elections.

Government maintains that Besigye will not be freed as long as he upholds the defiance campaign.

The prayers will be held every Tuesday.
