Blick Wins UOC Presidency Unopposed
The Chairman of the Uganda Rugby Union (URU), William Blick has been returned unopposed as President of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC).
Blick who has been the Acting President since Roger Hans Ddungu was banned last year after he took Olympic matters to court was announced President by the Returning Officer Kenneth Kitariko during the General Assembly at the Kati Kati Restaurant Conference Centre this afternoon.
The new entrants on the UOC Executive include Donald Rukare who comes in as the Secretary General taking over from long serving Penninah Kabenge who did not attend the Assembly. Rukare is also the Chairman of the Uganda Swimming Federation (USF).
Godfrey Nuwagaba also retained his position as treasurer together with Second Vice President Dennis Galabuzi. The Chairman of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA), Ambrose Tashobya was also unopposed for the position of First Vice President, and Dustan Nsubuga as Assistant Secretary General.
Veterans Gabriel Oloka, a former Secretary General together with Salim Musoke withdrew their applications as Executive Committee members. The four Executive members who were unopposed include; Moses Mwase, Sadiq Nasiwa, Sheila Agonzibwa and Sharifa Sanyu.
In his speech, Blick thanked the sports Federation for having faith in his team and promised to take UOC to the next level. He promised that his team would work with everyone who has a stake in the sport to take it to greater heights.
As a veteran sports administrator Oloka warned the new team not to sit back and instead work with everyone and be very open. The member of Uganda Shooting Association urged them to keep all channels of communication open and work with other federations.
