BLOODSHED!!! NRM Supporters Beaten, Arrested In Ntungamo

The climax of yesterday’s Independent Presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbabazi rally in Ntungamo was a battle between his supporters and those of National Resistance Movement (NRM) who had turned to disorganize his procession.

It started earlier in the day when NRM supporters donned in yellow t-shirts with a portrait of president Museveni were seen around Ntungamo municipality waiting for the opponents to arrive for the final rally.

Reports indicate that the fight started when one of the NRM supporters threw a stone at the Mbabazi procession, security personnel from the latter retaliated and this marked the start of the fight.

Video clips of the scene show NRM supporters being kicked, whipped and punched.  Some of them arrested as they tried to run away.

The overpowered police could not calm the situation. The video clips show a fazed police man glaring at the two groups as the battle ensued.

Addressing media after the clash, Amama Mbabazi implored NRM to desist from such deeds.

“This was our rally. What happened was uncalled for. The NRM should take these elections calmly. They (NRM) should desist from whatever they are doing. In my time in NRM this never happened.”

He added; “I would like to call on NRM to take it easy and know that we are in serious competition. I am an optimist. I hope NRM will see sense & act rationally. There’s no sense in doing whatever has happened today.”

Since the start of the campaigns NRM supporters have been at the vanguard trying to disorganize rallies of the former party secretary general.

Late November, an NRM chopper landed in Fort Portal at a venue where the Go Forward candidate was slated to host a rally.

According the electoral commission campaign guidelines, no candidate is allowed to hold a counter rally in a district where another candidate is campaigning.

However, the Electoral commission is yet to respond to Amama Mbabazi’s repeated complaints.
