Boxing Coach Dick Katende is Dead
Dick Katende, the National team boxing coach died on Tuesday morning at his home in Naguru Katale.
It is alleged that Katende slipped and hit his head on the floor while returning from a short call late in the night.
According to East Coast Boxing coach Hassan Khalil, Katende’s wife, who had been watching television with her husband, found the deceased lying in blood at around 3am.
The shocked wife couldn’t do anything rather than making an alarm that woke the neighbors up. The neighbors called the police that took his body to Mulago hospital for post mortem.
Katende, is a former national middleweight champion, he was appointed a national coach in 1992 replacing Cuban Jimenez Lazaros and served for over a decade.
He is remembered of leading the national team to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
