Bunyoro Royals Silent on Alleged Plot to Kill Omukama

Bunyoro Royal Clan members – Babiito remain tight-lipped about the accusation that they are plotting to kill the Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.

The accusation was first raised by the Omukama Iguru last Saturday while addressing his subjects at Karuziika palace in what to a possible rift between him and some members of the royal clan.

All Kings in Bunyoro and Tooro come from the Babiito clan.

Speaking in his native Runyoro, Omukama Iguru stated that; “Some Babiito are fighting me, they even want to kill me.

The Babiito, even the president has been directing that I should be given something but they block him, have you seen how backward we are?”

Despite the accusations however, the Babiito are yet to make any statement on the matter.

In 2012, Godfrey Magezi, Omukama Iguru’s relative filed an application in the High Court, Kampala complaining that he had been denied access to Kingdom assets and financial records.

Omukama Iguru is Magezi’s paternal uncle. It’s not however not clear whether Omukama’s claims are based on such clan and family grievances.

The king was early last year flown to Kenya amid claims he had been poisoned. Later the kingdom made a statement that the king had developed a complication that necessitated an operation.
