The Uganda National Bureau of Standards has sealed off Bushera (millet malt drink) manufacturing factory for producing unhygienic products.
According Denis Odur, a surveillance officer at Uganda National Bureau of Standards, said the factory, located at Bajjo in Mukono District, has been producing products called Promise without authorization from UNBS.
“They have been producing bushera in a very unhygienic condition, the product is not tested by UNBS and the whole production process is disorganized, so we cannot guarantee the safety of this products,” he said.
Odur said that they have impounded packaging materials, ready products and other product still in drums.
He said they did not find any one in charge of the factory during this raid and the few workers on site fled upon seeing them.
UNBS is hunting for the management of the factory which produces the malt drink under the brand name Promise to answer charges of producing and distributing unhygienic goods to the public.
