Ten suspects arrested in recent police operations in Busoga region have confessed to have murdered more than five people in retaliation to the arrest of their gang leader, Musa Duko.
Duko was arrested in connection to the murder of the late David Tito Okware, the LC III chairman of Buyinja Sub County in Namayingo district in a joint operation by the police and the Uganda’s People Defense Forces (UPDF).
The ten suspects who were part of Duko’s criminal gang told police that they had gone on a killing spree with intent to discredit the security system. The killings were planned on Duko’s orders, the suspects confirmed to police.
The group has also confessed to having planned and executed the murder of Sheikh Abdulkdir Muwaya, the Salaf Muslim leader who was shot at his home in Mayuge in December 2014 long before Duko was arrested.
They have now recorded extrajudicial statements confessing to the murder of Sheikh Abdulkdir Muwaya, as well as the two policemen ambushed and shot dead in Kapyanga Sub County, Bugiri District recently.
