Cause Of BoU Fire Still Not Known
Calm is returning at Bank of Uganda (BOU) premises after staff ran out of the building following a fire outbreak on Thursday afternoon.
The fire is said to have started just after 2pm in the West Wing of the building located on Plot 37/45 Kampala Road. Edward Tenywa, Assistant Director for Communications, said that the cause of the fire is not yet known.
By 4pm, fire officers and their trucks were still at the BOU premises and the bank staff was still out, but the police said the situation had been contained.
Earlier, BOU issued a statement on their website confirming the fire incident but noted that they had taken immediate steps and the situation had been contained. They added that no staff has been injured and no significant damage has occurred to any assets of the Bank.
Hassan Kihanda, deputy Chief Fire Officer, said that there was minor damage, but declined to explain what was damaged and where it was.
