City Oilers Blow Off Tiger Head Power To Stretch Lead

City Oilers edged out Tiger Power 77-67 in an entertaining game three of the National Basketball finals campaign on Sunday night at Lugogo Arena to extend their lead to 3-0.

Jimmy Enabu with a three-pointer gave City Oilers the edge in the final minute before Kami Kabange, who led the defending champions with 26 points, put the finishing touches with two free-throws.

Enabu said after the game that their victory came along as a result of team spirit and they will use the same aspect in their next game to achieve their goal of defending the title.

The defending champions lacked focus initially and Power scored the first few points in that clash but it did not last for long. Oilers stormed out of the gates to take a 15-12 lead in the first quarter.

Power woke up though, rallying back to lead 15-12 in the second period after two three pointers by Paul Odong, who also scored a game high of 18 points for his side.

However Oilers bounced back rapidly and tightened the screws on Defence in the third frame, which enabled them to turn the tables and stay in control in the third and fourth periods leading 25-21 and 23-19 respectively.

Enabu was also dominant in the paint for Oilers with his 16 points and four assists while Samuel Kalwanyi added 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, in what was supposed to be KCCA’s Leopards glory night, a relatively unheralded UCU Canons turned their opponent’s party into a Canons fiesta, defeating the Leopards 60-54.

KCCA, who had earlier won their game one against UCU last week, imposed their tempo right from tip-off and held a 32-27 advantage over the latter at the interval. But UCU improved defensively in the third quarter to reduce the gap and a solid finish enabled them to clinch their victory.
