Denis Onyango Nominated for African Player of the Year Award
By Serestino Tusingwire
The Uganda cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper Denis Masinde Onyango has been nominated alongside 4 other African based players to compete for the African Player of the year Award.
The nomination comes after the shot-stopper helped Uganda Cranes qualify for AFCON 2017 and winning the CAF Champions League title with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Onyango will battle it out with teammates Keegan Dolly (South Africa), Hlompho Kekana (South Africa), Khama Billiat (Zimbabwe) and TP Mazembe’s Rainford Kalaba (Zambia).
After receiving the nomination, Onyango reacted by posting on his Facebook page; “All the hard work is being recognized.”
Onyango also featured in the Best XI of the recently-concluded CAF Champions League.
Onyango is reaping big this year from his hard work, because even FUFA awarded him with a four-acre land title, thanking him for being the first Ugandan to win CAF champions league title.
Onyango was also voted the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Footballer of the year (2015).
