Elections were Free and Fair — Museveni Lawyers
Lawyers who will be representing president Museveni in the Supreme Court presidential election battle have filed a defense.
The lawyers led by Kiwanuka Kiryowa filed the defense yesterday at the Supreme Court in Kololo, a city upscale suburb.
According to the defence, the grounds raised by Mbabazi calling for the annulment of the elections are false.
Addressing media after filling the petition, Kiryo was said “the election was free and fair” and that the NRM legal team is presenting “evidence.”
Mbabazi filed the court petition on March 1st challenging the election of Yoweri Museveni as President and he is seeking its annulment.
He also sued the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General respectively.
Museveni was declared winner of the February 18th presidential election after garnering 60 percent of the total votes.
He was followed by Dr Kizza Besigye of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who polled 35 percent while followed by Mr Mbabazi in third position with 1.5 percent.
In the defence, Museveni claims that he did not give hoes to voters to give him votes but to help them improve their household income.
He also said he did not direct Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde to fly an NRM chopper to Fort Portal where he was holding a rally.
Museveni also denied using derogatory language.
He said the famous Leopard remarks meant that anyone who causes violence will face the wrath of the law.
The case kicks off today with a pre-hearing conference.
