Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, celebrated her 50th birthday over the weekend with a party that many have interpreted as a possible farewell to colleagues, as her contract officially expires today, Monday, 22 September 2025.
The uncertainty also hangs over her fellow deputy IGG, Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, and their boss, IGG Beti Kamya, with the appointing authority yet to make any announcements.
At the celebration held at her residence, family members, senior government officials, and university students paid glowing tributes to Dr. Achan for her mentorship, integrity, and professionalism.
Her husband, Mr. Okiria, praised her ability to balance public and private life: “She leaves her work title at the door and becomes a devoted wife and a steady hand in our home,” he said.
Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, who gifted her a Bible, reminded leaders of the moral compass required in public service. “The fight against corruption requires both righteous and professional commitment,” he remarked.
IGG Beti Kamya hailed her deputy’s “unwavering dedication,” while Muhairwe described her as “a pillar of the institution.” Students, too, shared personal testimonies, with Natasha, a representative, noting, “Her advice on living and studying with integrity has been invaluable.”
The celebration was both a personal milestone and a moment of reflection on her public service. As tributes flowed, the unanswered question lingered: is this a birthday — or a farewell?
