Uganda’s main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have invited President Museveni, the NRM chairman and sole candidate for the coming presidential elections to grace the party’s delegates conference.
The conference will elect party flag bearer between contestants Mugisha Muntu and Kizza Besigye for the 2016 presidential elections start tomorrow, Wednesday.
The party Spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju yesterday told journalists that President Museveni is among people invited.
“We invited all political parties’ chairpersons and their secretary Generals including the NRM,” he said adding “we think the NRM will be the main beneficially of the FDC processes.”
Ssemujju also said that the party’s ultimate objective is to make Uganda more democratic.
He also said that the party will have a presidential candidate by end of next week.
Attempt to reach NRM party Secretary General Kasule Lumumba for a comment whether she and the party chairman will attend hit a dead end as she did not respond to our calls.
Speaking at the Presidential FDC Flag Bearer Debate at Rwenzori Ballroom, Sheraton Hotel, Besigye said that he will be behind Muntu if he emerges as the winner but also expects the same Muntu to rally behind him if he emerges as the winner.
