Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Kizza Besigye has arrested ahead of Thursday’s presidential elections.
Besigye was arrested along Jinja as he proceeded to address a mini rally around midday. Before the arrest, a scuffle ensued between FDC supporters and Police as the former tried to thwart the latter from arresting Besigye.
He was detained at Kira Police Station but when his supporters thronged the vicinity demanding his release, Besigye was whisked away from the police station in a police van to unspecified location.
The situation remains tense around the city.
The arrest comes two days after Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura said police was ready to arrest Besigye who he said has been adamant to police calls to respect the Electoral Commission regulations on time on public rallies and traffic, and warned the force was prepared to use force to disperse his crowds.
