Former Old Kampala DPC Joram Mwesige Charged with Assault

Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu has determined that the former Old Kampala DPC Jorum Mwesigye, who is accused of assaulting and causing bodily injury to former WBS journalist Andrew Lwanga has a case to answer, thereby putting him on defense.

In a fully packed court room, the magistrate ruled that court had been convinced by the witnesses and exhibits that the prosecution produced.

“Six prosecution witnesses were produced in court and basing on their evidence I have found a prema facie case against you the accused Joram Mwesigye,” ruled the magistrate.

Mwesigye is expected to commence his defense on 7th Dec 2016.


The prosecution alleges that on 12th January 2014 at Florina Bar at Namirembe road, Mwesige unlawfully assaulted Andrew Lwanga who was covering a youth demonstration.

The journalist has since been unable to walk by himself because of an injured spine and required clutches.

The prosecution further alleges that on the same date in the place Joram Mwesigye damaged two video camera one belonging to Joseph Ssetimba as well as his khaki trouser.
