FOUR UHRC CHARGED WITH ABUSE OF OFFICE

The Uganda Human Rights Commission Secretary, Patrick Nyakaana, appeared in the Anti-Corruption Court yesterday at Kololo in Kampala to take a plea for allegedly mismanaging his institution’s funds.  

Nyakaana, together with other four Uganda Human Rights Commission officials Asiimwe Wilfred Maganga who is employed as Acting Director of Regional Service, Rebecca Nassuna, Principal Human Rights Officer; Mabiho Patrick and Wamala Taddeo was charged with abuse of office under Section 11(1) of Anti Corruption Act 2009.

Nyakaana was granted cash bail of Shs.5 million after producing substantive sureties with each surety granted non-cash bail of Shs.20 million. The prosecution, presented by State Attorney Marion Acio, alleges that between 27th and 30th November 2018, the accused officials made payment of Shs.25 million to their personal accounts.

 The four suspects denied the charges. The case will be brought to court again for mention on 19th August 2019.
