In a high-energy rollout that has left farmers buzzing with hope, the National Coffee Farmers Empowerment Programme was Wednesday officially launched in Rushebeya, Rwamucucu Sub County, Rukiga District, marking a bold new chapter in Uganda’s push for agricultural transformation and household wealth creation.

The landmark event was officiated on behalf of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni by Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo, who rallied wananchi to seize the opportunity, hailing the initiative as a game-changer for ordinary Ugandans. With conviction, she praised the programme’s laser focus on empowering farmers and boosting incomes, stressing that such interventions are the backbone of inclusive economic growth.

Delivering the President’s message, Alupo revealed that Museveni is firmly behind the initiative, describing it as perfectly aligned with the government’s long-standing mission to turn agriculture into a goldmine for wealth creation. The President called on wananchi to fully embrace the programme, urging communities to support and warmly welcome initiatives that directly uplift livelihoods at the grassroots.

But it was the force behind the scenes—Special Presidential Assistant Hajjat Amina Mukalazi—who emerged as the driving engine of this transformative agenda. Spearheading the programme through the State House Local Content Unit, Mukalazi was hailed for her relentless commitment to ensuring that ordinary Ugandans are not left behind in national development. Her hands-on approach and people-first strategy have positioned her as a key architect of this empowerment wave sweeping through farming communities.

The programme is no empty talk—it comes packed with practical support, including access to quality coffee seedlings, modern agricultural knowledge, and stronger market linkages. Building on earlier farmer sensitization and training efforts, it reflects a grounded, action-oriented strategy that speaks directly to the needs of farmers.

Speaking at the launch, Mukalazi underscored her vision with clarity, emphasizing that the goal is to ensure local communities tangibly benefit from government programmes. She stressed the need for sustained support, including continuous farmer training, timely delivery of inputs, and strict monitoring to ensure the programme delivers lasting impact.

Farmers were fired up and urged to adopt modern farming practices, properly manage the inputs provided, and work collectively to make the initiative a success. Leaders and stakeholders were equally tasked to keep mobilizing communities and guiding implementation on the ground.

With the National Coffee Farmers Empowerment Programme now in motion, expectations are sky-high that it will shift farmers from subsistence living to full-blown commercial agriculture—unlocking incomes, slashing poverty, and fueling Uganda’s economic engine.
