Kibuule Saga: Govt Launches Investigation

The government of Uganda has commenced investigations into the matter in which a a minister is accused of assaulting a security guard, the country’s premier has revealed.

PM Ruhaka Ruganda revealed on Thursday that government was unhappy about the incident involving Ronald Kibuule, the country’s state minister for water, that has since drawn anger from Ugandans across the political divide.

“Govt is concerned about the reported incident involving Hon Kibuule. The matter is being investigated&action will depend on the results,” Rugunda said in a tweet.

Kibuule is accused by Ms Hellen Obuku, a private security guard, of assaulting her when she asked him to be subjected to a routine security check at Stanbic Bank Mukono branch two weeks ago. The minister reportedly ordered police officers to arrest her on a libel offence after the assault, an allegation he denies.

Rugunda added, “We would like, not only Ugandans, but everybody to be treated properly and with respect. As leaders, we must provide good examples to those we lead.”
