GUARD KILLED IN MASAKA PETROL STATION BY THIEVES

A private security guard was last night attacked and killed by thieves who robbed Mogas Petrol Station along the villa Maria road at in Masaka district. The deceased is identified as Mathias Mawanda, a reserve force officer attached to Masaka Town Reserve Force Office.  According to the fuel station manager Pauline Birabwa, the guard’s found dumped behind one of the cars that were parked at the fuel station during the time of the attack. Birabwa says that the robbers broke into the office after killing the guard and stole her desktop computer, a number of other valuables and cash. Preliminary police investigations indicate that the guard was alone at the fuel station, at the time of the incident. The fuel attendant identified had Francis Kibuuka had reportedly gone to sleep.  Southern Region Police spokesperson Paul Kangave says that the attackers stubbed the guard using a sharp object. He has however warned fuel station proprietors against single-man deployments saying that it puts the security guards at a risk in case of an attack. Notably, Police in Masaka is still investigating this matter.
