On Tuesday last week, President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM national party chairperson  met NRM leaders where they ‘endorsed’ late Jacob Oulanyah’s son Andrew Ojok Oulanyah for the Omoro parliamentary seat.

In attendance were aspirants who had expressed interest for the seat and these include; Omoro LC5 chairperson, Douglas Okello, Omoro District council speaker Richard Bongowat Luganya, Andrew Obal, former Gulu Deputy RCC Francis Rwotlonyo and Ojok.

According to a source who attended the meeting, all other aspirants agreed to step down for Ojok and was subsequently endorsed as the ‘sole candidate’ for the NRM party for Omoro county by-election which is slated on May 26th, 2022.

In a video released by the Presidential Press Unit, President Museveni is quoted saying, “If Oulanyah had not died, we would have had elections in 2026, so the decent thing to do is to let one of the children of Oulanyah stand in for him and for us, for the remaining period of 4 years.”

The Omoro County Constituency Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the former Member of Parliament and former Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.
