Kagame Cup; Bobby Questions Umony Status at KCCA FC

Former Uganda Cranes tactician Bobby Williamson is having a hard time at the on-going 2014 Cecafa Kagame Club Championship in Kigali, Rwanda with his team yet to get a single point after two Group B games played.

The Gor mahia tactician who was last week appointed new coach of Kenya’s national team, Harambee stars lost 2-1 to KCCA FC in the opening match before falling 1-0 to Burundi’s Atletico FC at the Nyamirambo Stadium on Monday.

With the team already in line to face an early exit from the regional tournament, the Scot is already crying foul wondering why Brian Umony who scored KCCA FC’s second goal against Gor Mahia is allowed to play without a contract.

Umony who was released in June by Tanzanian champions Azam FC was last month recalled to the national team and featured in the two legs against Mauritania in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

The striker said that he cannot join any other team in Uganda apart from KCCA FC that he has played for before.

But Williamson questions why KCCA FC is using the player in the tournament. However, KCCA FC team Manager Ahmed Kabuye has downplayed the query stating that Umony is part of the KCCA FC team.

Umony is expected to be in action tomorrow when Coach George Nsimbe’s side plays its third match against Atletico FC (Burundi). KCCA FC desperately needs to register a win to get close to qualification for the quarter final stage.

The tournament that started last Friday continues to have upsets as defending champions Vital’O from Burundi were last night stopped 3-1 by Police FC.

The Rwanda team which was last season handled by former Carnes assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa had Jerome Sina score a brace, while Jacques Tuyisenge scored the other. Hussein Shaban scored for Vital’O.

Action continues this afternoon with two matches at the Nyamirambo Stadium. Zanzibar’s KMKM FC faces Adama FC (Ethiopia) before title favorites Azam FC (Tanzania) take on Leo Adraa’s Atlabara FC from South Sudan.
