The fifth annual Kampala city carnival which will be celebrated on October 2, 2016 will cost over Shs800m, according to the organizers of the event.

Ahead of the festival, the KCCA Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi says, over sh800m is required for the festival preparations.

Musisi says starting this week Kampala will get a facelift with most of the places including roads decorated with the Uganda national colours, black, yellow and red.

Accordingly, more sponsors have come on board and offered a boost of sh100m.

Musisi has appealed to the business community to embark on the renovation of their buildings to suite with the festival celebration.

John Ddumba, the in-charge of the festival states, says the money needed is to help in setting up different stages, paying allowances for security and people who will clean the city before and after the event.

He says the two-day event will see Kampala residents and visitors enjoy the city without any kind of restrictions.

“Without being told what to do; you come in, you can step on the grass, you walk all over the streets, you can sell your goods and that is exactly what we give you on the festival,” Ddumba says.
