Kenyans Tame Uganda

Africa World Championship qualifiers

Kenya 3 Uganda 0

Senegal 3 Seychelles 1

Mozambique 0 Tunisia 3

Prior Sunday’s game, Uganda has lost the last two meetings against Kenya in this campaign in straight sets and the script didn’t change much as the Kenya women volleyball team opened their World Championship qualification account with a 3-0 win over a Christine Alupo captained side in a match played at the Safaricom Indoor Arena at Kasarani.

Despite their good pre tournament preparation where they camped in Netherlands for close to two weeks before flying to Nairobi, the Ugandan girls offered very little resistance as they were given no chance by their hosts right from the start of the match with Kenya winning 25:16, 25:10 and 25:12

Kenya Coach David Lung’aho however said he expected his team to perform even better with a stronger score line but went ahead to congratulate Uganda for showing immense signs of growth in their style of play, “We knew they were in Netherlands for advanced training and we did not know their strategy coming to this match. But our agenda was one right from the start, to pin tem hard and pick some strong sets.” He said.

“I expected my girls to perform better but all in all a win is a win especially considering it was our first match. That is now behind us and we go forward to prepare for the next assignment.” He added.

Earlier at the same venue, Senegal defeated Seychelles 3-1 while Tunisia walked past Mozambique with an easy 3-0 win.

Uganda today faces Mozambique lost to tournament favourites Tunisia in straight sets and it will surely be the Cranes opportunity to revive their fortune against their opponents today.
