The Acting Competitions Director of the Uganda FA, Decolas Kiiza, has clarified that FIFA cleared striker Emmanuel Okwi to join Tanzanian league champs Young Africans FC.
Early this week the FA’s Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Watson, said they had contacted FIFA to get more clarification on the issue.
Young Africans signed Okwi early this week on a two-year deal and yet FIFA had provisionally released the player to join local side SC Villa from Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel.
But Okwi’s former team, Simba SC in Tanzania, is also unhappy that the Tunisian giants did not pay the full transfer package when Okwi moved early this year.
Okwi is expected to fly out to Dar es Salaam on Friday to complete the contract details with Young Africans and also feature against former side Simba SC in a special encounter on Saturday.
Allan Papaok, a director in the company that has rights over the player, said today that they have not finalised the deal for Okwi’s move.
“We might fly there this weekend to conclude the deal,” he added.
However, many football administrators in Uganda are wondering how FIFA could clear Okwi to transfer to Young Africans, yet he was released on a provisional basis to join SC Villa from Etoile du Sahel, who he claimed were not meeting contractual obligations.
