Erias Lukwago retained to the city hall in a resounding victory after polling 176,637 votes representing 75.56%.

NRM candidate Daniel Kazibwe aka Ragga Dee got 49,366 representing 21.12% while DP’s Issa Kikungwe trailed with 7759 representing 3.32%.

Lukwago supporters thronged Kampala streets yesterday evening to celebrate early victory after learning that their candidate was trouncing rivals in provisional results.

Erias Lukwago was controversially impeached from the Kampala lord mayorship on November 25, 2013 in a move orchestrated by minister for Presidency and Kampala Frank Tumwebaze.

In November 2015, government presented a Bill seeking to amend the Kampala Capital City Authority Act 2010 seeking to change the mode of electing Lord Mayor.

Government proposed that “the Lord Mayor be elected by the Council from among the Councillors” and “clarify the roles of the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor.”
