Embattled Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has questioned Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura’s ability to provide security to all Ugandans, especially to Muslim clerics who are being gunned down.
His comment came after another Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kiirya, spokesperson of Kibuli Muslim faction was gunned down in Bweyogerere, Wakiso district while driving home last night.
“Am short of words to express the grief and shock with which I received the news of the gruesome murder of yet another prominent Muslim cleric, Sheik Ibrahim Hassan Kiryangenjovu. Gen. Kaihura assured the Nation that they had provided security to all Muslim leaders; what really happened? Were the bodyguards also killed? Inna lillahi wa inna illaihi rajihoon,” Lukwago lamented today morning via his official Facebook Page.
Kirya was shot on Tuesday night minutes after dropping his bodyguard who stays at Kireka Police barracks, a Kampala suburb. He then drove home at around 10:00pm and it is at Bweyogere where he was attacked and shot dead.
In January this year, police provided bodyguards to Muslim Sheikhs, including Kirya who were reportedly on the assassin’s hit list.
Gen. Kayihura had offered to provide bodyguards to Muslim clerks in December 2014 at dhuwa prayers at Kibuli Mosque for Sheikh Mustafa Bahiiga, the Kampala District Amir, who was shot dead along Entebbe.
