M7 Calls For Unity Among Muslim Communities

President Yoweri Museveni has urged the Moslem fraternity in Uganda to unite and work together for the good of the Islamic faith in the country and reminded them that unity is strength.


The President made the remarks on Friday in Masaka Municipality where he had joined the Muslim community in Idd prayers that marked the end of the Holy month of Ramadhan.

The President attended separate prayers at Masaka main mosque and at Masaka Golf Course Grounds in Masaka Municipality.

The President told the Moslems that unity was good for the strength of the Islamic faith, for themselves as the Muslim family and for the country.

He said that everyone should contribute towards that unity. He pledged that the National Resistance Movement government will support all the efforts that aim at unifying the Muslim community in Uganda.

He urged the leaders to partner with government and play a leading role in ensuring that ensure that this unity is realized.

Museveni further assured the Muslims in the country that those who have been perpetuating the killing of Muslim leaders in the country will be dealt with decisively noting that some have already been arrested and those still at large will be arrested too and subjected to due legal process.

He further said that government was also strengthening security surveillance and intelligence in the entire country to mitigate such terrorist acts in future.

“We already have Jamil Mukulu and have already made good arrests of the criminals and we shall ultimately defeat them.

Those killers allied with Bashir who glorified the marginalization of the black people. We in the Movement opposed him and we shall defeat them and their cowardly actions,” he said.

The President lauded the Muslim community for embracing education especially the girl-child education and informed them that education was the key for the future generations.

Masaka district Khadi, Sheikh Bruhan Bagunduse said that the Uganda Moslem Supreme Council works and supports the unity of all Muslim in Uganda in line with the teaching of the Holy Koran.

He said that it was up to the other Muslim factions to embrace the same unity drive.
