The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday gave a cash boost worth Shs660m to the National football team (Uganda Cranes) ahead of 2018 World Cup qualifier game against Ghana.

According to Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) president Moses Magogo, Museveni confirmed the development through a telephone call to him on Saturday morning.

Magogo says the support is timely as the team prepares to face Ghana. He thanked the president for supporting the team always.

“President Museveni is a keen follower of local football and Uganda Cranes and has told the players to go and play well against Ghana,” says Magogo.

The money is meant to facilitate the national football team game against Ghana on Friday October 7, and also pay the team’s coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic whose three months’ salary has not been paid.

Uganda will first play a friendly match with Togo on Tuesday October 4.

Cranes last month made a historic qualification for the 2017 AFCON after defeating Comoros 1-0 in a do-or-die game at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

It is now eyeing for another heroic record of qualifying for the world cup for the first time ever.
