Makerere University authorities have given lectures up to Friday November 11 to return cars that belong to the university.
The university vice chancellor Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu had earlier this week given a directive to lecturers to return the vehicles but only 5 out of 375 complied.
Ritah Namisango, the university public relations officer said the extension is to ensure efficient return of the vehicles following staff appeal for more time.
“Some members wrote to us saying that they were not aware of the directive. Others are in their villages, but we have given them up to Friday,” she said.
According to Namisango, the directive is to ensure safety of the vehicles since the university is closed.
“By Friday we shall get a report from the estates and works department of the returned and parked vehicles. A number of vehicles have been returned,” she added.
She clarified that vehicles for staff from the College of Health Sciences should not be returned because the college is operational.
Makerere staff was directed to return the vehicles on Friday following a resolution by the university council of November 4.
