Police in Kampala are holding four students of Makerere University who were protesting against the closure of the university.

Students stormed city center demonstrating over the closure of the university thus causing chaos in the city of which police could not allow to continue.

The Students putting on their red gowns were moving down town singing and shouting carrying placards reading “We want Makerere University open, closing Makerere is murdering academics of Africa”

Police swung in action arresting four of them who have been taken to Central Police Station while others escaped.

Among the arrested include Kato Paul, Ainebyona Ronald and Mugabi Edmond.

Spokesperson of Kampala metropolitan police Kayima Emilian says the fourth person was not a student but a hair dresser who had joined in the chanting.

President Museveni early last week ordered for immediate closure of Makerere University following a standoff between lecturers and management over payments forcing the former to lay down tools until the impasse is solved.

However, Makerere University Guild president, Roy Ssemboga has given government up to Wednesday this week to have the university reopened or students take the next course of action.
