Malawi Flames Beat Uganda Cranes

Striker Chiukepo Msowoya’s late goal saw the Cranes side fall in the hands of Malawi Flames at Kamuzu Banda Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi on Monday evening.

uganda-vs-Malawi-780x400Msowoya who was recalled back to the Malawi National team scored in the dying minutes in a match that saw thousands of fans in attendance.

Uganda Cranes’ team was largely composed inexperienced players with three appearing for the first national team debut.

Goal keeper, Mathias Kigonya, midfielder Tadeo Lwanga and defender Deus Bukenya had their first chance at the national team.

Richard Kasagga captained the team for the first time since usual skipper; Farouk Miya did not start the game.

Mathias Kigonya started in goal ahead of James Alitho with Lweza skipper Ibrahim Kiyemba playing the right back role.

Vipers’ Deus Bukenya started at left back, ahead of the usual suspect, Brian Ochwo with Richard Kasagga and Shafik Bakaki starting in the central defensive department.


SC Villa new buy, Tadeo Lwanga started the match as the anchorman with Yunus Sentamu and Martin Kizza on the right and left wings respectively.

On the front line, Micho opted for a two man attack of Fahad Muhammed Hassan and Umar Kasumba.

The team returns Tuesday evening.

The Cranes will travel to Egypt for the CAF- U23 assignment on the 18th of July.
