MAN ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATION

Police in Kampala has in custody a robber who put on a police uniform, targeting boda-boda motorcyclists. Fauswali Isabirye who was arrested using CCTV cameras is said to have been putting on a police uniform and pretends to be a serving officer and carries out arrests of unsuspecting boda-boda riders. Kampala Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Monday night that Isabirye was carrying out thefts with his colleague Moses Tukesiye. Both are residents of Palisa District. It is alleged that Isabirye impounds the motorcycles before telling his victims to find him at the nearby police station. However, he would disappear with their motorcycle and ride them to Parisa where police revealed that he has a buyer.  Notably, in a statement, police say these have stolen two motorcycles registration numbers UER 349U and UEV 434V from Old Kampala area and both incidents were captured on police CCTV cameras. “After the complaints, his image was put in the CCTV system, which detected him and alerted our officers in the control room,” revealed police. “He confessed to the theft of these motorcycles and it’s alleged he has been selling each motorcycle at shs100, 000 to unsuspecting buyers,” added police. The suspect who is currently detained at Old Kampala Police station is charged with theft of motorcycles and impersonation.
